Two Fridays ago we completed our final Post Placement Visit! It's kind of surreal knowing we are entering the final phase of the adoption process:
Milestone 4 - Finalization.
Ok, so what does finalization actually entail? From what we've been told, it will mostly be paper.....lots of paper....in fact, several trees may die for the cause! Once all the paperwork is compiled by our adoption agency, it will be handed over to a lawyer who will double and triple check everything. There will be more paperwork to fill out and then he will request a court date so we can finalize.
When you are in the adoption process, you quickly become drawn to others who have adopted or have been adopted as well. Kinda like a powerful magnet bringing you together....drawing on each others experiences. Several families we know have been through finalization or have attended a finalization hearing already themselves. The overwhelming consensus is that while the finalization will be a serious time with the Judge asking us questions under oath and reviewing our case file....it is more of a day of celebration. Korry, Micaiah and I will walk into the court room together and leave as a forever family. I am sure it will be one of those happy, overwhelming, full-of-joy type of days........It's time to begin stocking up on Kleenex now, because I am sure it will be needed that day!
Until then, please be in prayer that the time of "paper" goes smoothly.
Korry, Sarah and Micaiah
